UE Caloocan Profs’ Works Get Published Internationally!Three UE Caloocan professors—Dr. Efren C. Gimoto Jr. of the UE College of Arts and Sciences (CAS)-Caloocan, Prof. Eloida Carpio Dagumboy of the UE College of Business Administration (CBA)-Caloocan and Filmmaker-Professor Richard Soriano Legaspi of the UE College of Fine Arts, Architecture and Design (CFAD)—have had their respective works in research and literature published recently in various international publications.

Dr. Gimoto’s work titled “Effective Broadcast Strategies for Bombo Radyo-Iloilo to Meet the Existing Broadcast Code of the Philippines” was published in the Journal of Public and Private Management (Vol. 25, No. 2, 31 December 2018 ISSN: 0854-9849) by the National Institute of Development Administration in Bangkok, Thailand (ASEAN Citation Index). The said Journal is a double-blind review [a review process based on the Committee on Publication Ethics’ (COPE) Best Practices for Publishing], refereed journal produced by the Graduate School of Public Administration of Thailand’s National Institute of Administration, a reputable institution for policy administration, and which publishes articles in public governance, policy, administration, and management with a focus on ASEAN and the Asia Pacific region.

Dr. Gimoto’s published research was first presented at the 6th Global Science and Technology Forum (GSTF) Annual International Conference on Journalism and Mass Communication in 2017 at Hotel Fort Canning in Singapore, where he also served as the session chair and evaluator for the conference’s best research paper. Dr. Gimoto, who is also the Chair of UE CAS Caloocan’s Communications Program, serves as a member of the Editorial Board of GSTF-Singapore in the field of Journalism and Mass Communication. Organized in 2008, GSTF has dedicated itself to promoting research and development, and journal publications, and offers an interdisciplinary intellectual platform for academics, researchers and industry experts in Asia Pacific to collaborate with their counterparts across the globe.

Prof. Dagumboy’s research titled “Coverage Index of Various Communication Platforms: A Segmented Approach to Philippine University Marketing,” was accepted and has been published (in print and online) at the Jurnal Studi Komunikasi or The Indonesian Journal of Communication Studies (Vol. 3, No. 3, 2019) on November 8, 2019. The paper was aimed at assessing the effectiveness of the platforms employed by universities in our country, with coverage as the pivotal criterion, in an integrated marketing communications strategy and to determine the right assortment of communication platforms.Jurnal Studi Komunikasi is a double-blind reviewed journal that explores critical and constructive inquiries into a wide range of fields of study on Communication Science, with emphasis on interdisciplinary approaches. Papers accepted by the journal are indexed at the Directory of Open Access Journal (DOAJ), EBSCO, Google Scholar, Science and Technology Index (SINTA) by the Ministry of Research and Higher Education Republic Indonesia, as Rank 2, and Worldcat, among others.

Prof. Dagumboy was definitely on a roll in the last quarter of 2019 by giving the university three various recognitions. Aside from published work for the Indonesian Journal of Communication Studies, she represented UE for a one-week co-producing seminar, and was an international research presenter and conference session chair in the International Academic Forum (IAFOR) of Japan.

Prof. Legaspi’s literary work, “Making Love with the Wind in the Time of Pandemic,” was part of “Plague 2020: Covid-19 Poetry and Art from Around the World,” a USA-based anthology of 130 poems from 35 countries reflecting various narratives of separation, misery, longings and hope that people across the globe are experiencing during this unprecedented modern era of quarantines and lockdowns. Prof. Legaspi’s literary piece reflects our emotional journey in this trying time. The wind here is a symbol of the spirit of our loved ones and how they caress us in a poetic manner—that only the rhythmic dance of the chimes and kisses of the air on our napes can truly validate its mystic presence.

The competitive call for submission for the international anthology was held in April 2020 and the selected works were collected and published by poet Mahnaz Badihian and Mahmag.org (USA, ISBN-10: 1087896649) in the last quarter of 2020.Prof. Legaspi’s poem was also translated in Italian, as “Fare L’Amore Con Il Vento,” as part of the experimental short film funded by the University of Ideas (UNIDEE) and Zegna Foundation-Italy. This is his second internationally published work, the first one being “The Second Paradise,” printed in 2013 by Fondazione Pistoletto Onlus, in Biella, Italy.

An interdisciplinary artist, Prof. Legaspi, through his works, is focused on raising consciousness and creating space for dialogue on communal issues, the responsible transformation of society and creative activation through contemporary art. His literary feats include being a 2013 Don Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature Winner for his screenplay “Primera Bella.” The filmmaker and educator is continuously sharing his voice through literature and moving images to the public.

All three UE faculty members were accepted to the International Academic Forum (IAFOR), but only Dr. Gimoto and Prof. Dagumboy had the chance to present their respective research papers. Prof. Legaspi’s creative research abstract paper presentation for his research, “An Empirical Analysis of Filipino Migrant Workers in Taiwan in Relation to Temporality and the Notion of Other Spaces,” was put on hold due to other international film festival commitments.From academic research to creative writing, Dr. Gimoto, Prof. Dagumboy and Prof. Legaspi are embracing the new decade by raising the bar of excellence in the international platform.
