Legaspi’s “Kinulayang Kiti,” “Pamatid-Gutom” to be shown at CineMaralita.
Richard Soriano Legaspi’s short films “Kinulayang Kiti” (Hand-Painted Feathers) and “Pamatid-Gutom” (Hunger Pangs) were officially selected to screen as part of the first CineMaralita film festival on September 28 at the University of the Philippines College of Mass Communication.
Aiming to raise awareness of the general public on the situation of the urban poor, CineMaralita will be held in various schools and universities in Metro Manila in cooperation with academic institutions and organizations.
Aside from the first leg of the festival at the UP CMC auditorium, it will run until December 2012 in line with the commemoration of Human Rights’ Month, and the government’s celebration of the Urban Poor Week.
The event is also an income-generating project aiming to initiate and sustain community actions and projects to work for better socio-economic and cultural welfare of urban poor communities.
Organized by the Urban Poor Resource Center of the Philippines (UPCRP) with Sining-Kadamay, Cinemaralita will also be a venue of exchanges and convergence between audiences, filmmakers and urban poor organizations as open forums and discussions will be conducted for every screening.
UPRCP is a non-stock, non-profit advocacy institution committed to serve the Filipino urban poor in upholding their rights to basic social services, and in the pursuit of realizing social justice and ending poverty while Sining-Kadamay is a cultural art organization for and from the ranks of the urban poor.
